The Tafilah WWTP was constructed in 1989 with a design capacity of 1,600 m3/day capable of handling an organic concentration (BOD) of 1,060 mg/L and total suspended solids of 1,175 mg/L. The major treatment process units include headwork, Imhoff tanks, trickling filters secondary clarifiers, and sludge drying beds.

The Tafilah Wastewater Treatment Plant included the replacement and demolition of the existing WWTP with a new plant constructed on the existing site and a new site to the west of the existing WWTP. Where the new WWTP constructed in 2022 with a design capacity of 5000 m3/day up to 7500 m3/day (Future expansion) capable of handling an organic concentration (BOD) of 713 mg/L and total suspended solids of 691 mg/L. The major treatment process units include a headwork, Oxidation Tank, secondary clarifiers, solid & Dewatering System (GBT and Decanter), Odor Control System and sludge evaporation & drying beds.
